You think that after some nuclear war which destroys nearly the whole world, there would certainly be the same amount of snow in those states as today? I do not think so ;D Well, I don't think nuclear bombs can affect the rotational inertia of the earth. Therefore, the earth continues to rotate around the sun as it would now, and we would still have summer, spring, fall, and winter. There are ideas that nuclear bombs will change the weather because all those bombs will make the earth warmer. However, that is not possible for a world wide climate change. But some of you will argue that global warming is taking place and in 200 years, there will be no more south pole or what not. Who knows what will happen 200 years from now. @ chrisube. It snows about 4 months over there, but i'm guessing the weather is cold enough to keep the snow on the ground for a long period? I'm asking cause i live in California. I dont see snow, so sad. edit: Some kind of poll would be a good idea.

Exactly! I doubt it will be exactly like it is nowadays ^^ In particular after a few hundred nuclear bombs would have exploded in the USA.
I mean when you assume there is no real change in whatever, why don't we just use as game time the actual real life time? It is the same, since nothing recognizable will happen by then.

Well, we could instead go the 'nuclear winter' idea of nuclear fallout, instead of putting the temperature at a balmy boiling point. ;D

I think we should stick to desert background, rather than designing snow-covered fields. The whole feeling would change immediately. We need lots of sand/ashes, hot sun and dry air So I vote for desert.

Well an advantage to using somewhere in Europe is that we can then show all sorts of famous European monuments post-nuclear style (the Eiffel Tower anyone?). My perfect setting would be Britain & the Northern parts of France/Belgium/Holland. That way,
1. A large part is in an English-speaking country. 2. England was/is more heavilly influenced by American culture than other countries, meaning we could still fit plenty of American-style stuff (though personally, from a British perspective, I always saw the Fallout style as being more 50s than it is American. There was the same us vs them mentality abound during the cold war, & similar artistic styles, globalisation etc.). 3. We still get the scope for variation between the various nations - "Hey, I wonder what happened to the Eiffel Tower?" etc. 4. The player could walk between Britain and the mainland via tha channel tunnel. How cool would that be? 5. We get to include the London & Paris Undergrounds, which are crying out for being populated with angry radiders/mutants/whatever.
