Hey, I just want to make sure how many people are still able to work on this project; just post to this thread if you are.
Thanks, Pabst

Its odd, it seemed as if the forum used to be a lot more active based on all the posts I read here. Perhaps we should start looking for some more people.
Regarding the project itself, it appears that most people want to work with FIFE, but since FIFE is a scripted game there's no real need for programmers, thats why I've decided in the mean time to build some models to contruct a sample world that we can render into 2D images and animations that could be used with FIFE, or a 3D application should we chose to build one later.
Most importantly these models could be used to attract more applicants to join the project.
Btw, if we could find concept artists it would help speed the model building process. Unfortunately I'm not so good with building humans, but I'm pretty good with UV mapping, and modelling static objects.
Hope this might help, Pabst

Actually I appreciate to see someone with a similar attitude =) We just need more people who are really interested and this thing can become reality.

Hey rchpabst Since we are the only two ones who remain, I suggest to pull it ourselves first. IM PM me or give me you mail address if you are interested in pulling such a project.

I've added myself as 'active' at the Wiki
I think it would be possible to beign this project ourselves, though it's a good idea to extend this invitation to the others.
Perhaps we should re-consider what tools we're going to use to build this project. Even though FIFE would help a lot, I'm personally attached to the programming part of building a project and believe that it would be possible to construct our own engine using other libraries. The storyline ofcourse is left for other people, I'm not really interested in commenting on such things as I believe that everyone here has played the game and understands what they must do to parrallel Fallout.
Thanks, Pabst

Yes everyone is invited to join whenever one wants to, of course. (btw the activity wikipart should really show the actual time one can effort recently and in future.
If you feel comfortable in developing the idea of an own engine, then you may do so. That would be some progress really.
Additionally we will use the tool I am programming recently for creeating the basic game mechanics.
Story things should really be done by people with knowledge about it, as only artists should do the artwork really.
Actually the plan is to pull this project that far that we will be able to show something. That could be an engine, developing tools, gamemechanics, storyline, a frame you know? When we have worked out the basic direction, then we could show it to people, who may get attracted by that and the whole thing could evolve.
I think thats the best way, otherwise we will get lost in a sea of opinions.

Great,
I'll begin a simple 2D drawing engine using OpenGL so we can combine it with the engine you're working on. It shouldn't take me more than a few days to get something working. It will just be a means of visually testing the game mechanics. Will simplify the drawing of objects in the following manner: drawObj(TextureID, PositionXYZ, SizeWH, RotationAngle, TransparencyValue)
I'll probably be using some 3rd party libraries so that i can load PNG, TGA, JPG, and Bitmap files.
So main features will be: *read PNG, TGA, JPG, and Bitmap files *load Alpha channels from PNG, and TGA files *create a window, editable in size, with fullscreen capability *draw textured quads with varying sizes and transparency
Also, are you using Windows, or Linux?

Hey, sorry guys I'm still here too. Work and personal business keeps pulling me away for days at a time but I'm not giving up on this. I'm changing my job to primarily recruitment. If ya'll could still hang out in the IRC channel whenever your at your computer that'd be helpful. I'll get crackin on recruitment today.

rchpabst: I imagine that is a good way to start. Just let some images run over the window, kk. Whats the language of your choice to build it? Id like to see something build in java really ^^, but feel free in whatever you do =) I am using both, though I could live without windows =) @wolf: nice to see you again actually that sounds good =) I have some exams from friday on, but after that lots of free time until the next one, so I will finish my dev tool within maybe a few weeks by then.

Java sounds good to me, it will definetly solve the issue of finding image file loaders. Since its Java, I'm going to be using LWJGL; JOGL is also an option but I've never used it before, maybe it is better than LWJGL? I'll try working with both and see which performs better.
Also, I'll be on IRC periodically throughout each day.

Hi akuratnik! Our board is not in use atm so it is rather empty here.
So you are interested in contributing to the Sequel? What do you like to do? =)

I posted in the introductions thread. I could do plotlines, etc. How come it's not in use? Maybe we could reset this thing, I could do some work on the style (this one is awful) and we could get the forum going again? For a project of this sort its the best option.
